Dye Sublimation, In Plain Language
How It Works
Dye sublimation is a two-step printing process. The printer lays CMYK sublimation ink onto transfer paper. A heat calender then presses the paper against your fabric. Under heat and pressure, the ink turns from solid to gas and bonds into the fibers. The result is a print with no coating on top of the fabric. Color stays bright through wash after wash.
Sublimation works on polyester and polyester blends. The higher the polyester content, the deeper the color. It is the standard for sportswear, soft signage, home textile, and fashion pieces made from synthetic fiber. Atexco has built industrial sublimation printers for over 30 years and supplies print shops in more than 50 countries.

Dye Sublimation or Direct to Textile?
Both processes turn a digital file into a printed textile. They use different inks, different workflows, and serve different end uses. If your shop prints on polyester, sublimation is usually the answer. If you print on cotton, silk, or viscose, direct to textile is the stronger fit.
